Madden NFL 16 ad doesn’t make much sense, but it’s a ton of fun

The upcoming Madden NFL 16 video game is coming out soon, and with it comes an absolutely bonkers advertisement for the popular series.

There’s a lot to digest in this one. The spot stars Dave Franco as Blade Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Janet and a bevy of NFL stars including Rob Gronkowski, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Rex Ryan and Colin Kaepernick.

As for what’s going on, uh, watch the video for yourself. Basically it’s a bunch of NFL players and some actors being completely ridiculous - including a funnier than it should be performance by Kaepernick as Al Pacino from Scent of a Woman.

This expensive looking produced mini movie gives each NFL player in it a moment to shine. Kaepernick is all-in with his Pacino parody. Jones is rocking a flat top with a giant chunk missing from it. Gronkowski is literally blowing bad guys away with a football launcher contraption. Ryan is having fun yelling at the two main actors for their play in Madden, giving advice like a coach would on the sidelines - he even gets killed in this one. What really puts this over the top is Franco’s performance, as he’s going nuts throughout the entire spot, especially when he scores a touchdown in the video game against Kaepernick.

The story concludes along the way, as Franco’s character is double crossed by the woman he was trying to save, and the big bad guy gets eaten by a dinosaur. The whole thing is totally incoherent but admirable in it’s sheer ridiculousness.

Does it make sense? No. Is it fun to see NFL stars have some fun? Definitely.
