Target releases beautiful ad supporting Pride

Pride Month is underway and with it Target has released a very beautiful and poignant ad promoting inclusivity.

The ad is titled ‘Take Pride’ and Target’s message on their YouTube page says “Pride isn’t something any of us were born with. It is something we take, by finding purpose in every challenge, experience, victory and feeling. Join us as we celebrate and take pride in who we were born to be.”

Watch for yourself:

The ad’s reception has been extremely positive, although since it deals with subject material that is still somehow controversial in this day and age, the YouTube comments and like/dislike meter have had been flooded with negative remarks and dislikes. Some commenters have called for the boycott of Target, which is absolutely ridiculous.

Laysha Ward, Target’s EVP and chief corporate social responsibility officer, released a statement from Target’s corporate website saying “Target proudly stands with the LGBT community, both as a team member and team player through all that we do—from our volunteer efforts to our long-standing partnerships with groups like Family Equality Council and Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, to the very products we carry in our stores and online.”

Target previously got in hot water after allegedly making political donations to a Republican candidate who was supposedly an antigay candidate. Target stated they’ve made donations to both major parties, and that they have a long stading support for LGBT rights.

Kudos to Target for showing their public support for Pride. It’s not easy for huge public companies to take stances like this, but Target has done so in a very warm and welcoming way. Let’s hope more big companies follow suit.
